Celebrating the life of

Jimmy Larry Martin

May 30, 1939 - February 24, 2025

Jimmy Larry Martin

Jimmy Larry Martin, 85, died peacefully at home on Monday, February 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving sons.

Born on May 30, 1939, in Savannah, he was the son of the late James Madison Martin and Ebbie Marie O’Quinn Martin. A proud graduate of Savannah High School in 1957, Jimmy's leadership shone as Co-Captain of the Blue Jackets football team during the 1956-57 season, earning the distinction of “Most Athletic Male” from his senior class. He continued his education at Armstrong College and dedicated over 32 years to the shipping industry, where he served as terminal manager for twelve memorable years.

Jimmy found joy in the great outdoors, spending quality time with family through hunting and fishing adventures. His beloved wife of 58 years, Kaye Stafford Martin, preceded him in death. Together, they made a lasting impact, helping to establish the YMCA on Whitemarsh Island, where Jimmy inspired countless young athletes through his coaching in football, basketball, and baseball.

He is survived by his two sons, Matt Martin (Janet Fair) and Andy Martin (Nita), both of Savannah; three grandchildren, Kayla Martin Butler (Kyle), Steven Eckert, and Hannah Eckert; and one great-grandchild, Buckley Butler.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. A private graveside service will take place on Friday at Sands Field Cemetery in Daisy, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you consider donating in Jimmy’s memory to a charity of your choice.
